The coast south of Glencairn

Don't just visit Cape Town. Stay on the Peninsula.

One base. Many ways to experience the Cape.

One of the pleasures of staying here is the choice. Spend the morning at the water, disappear into the mountains, follow the coast for the day, read the history of Simon's Town, taste your way through the vineyards, or pick the thing that gets the adrenaline going. You do not need to plan any of it before you arrive.

Explore when you want to. Slow down when you need to. Make the Peninsula your own.

Start at the water

Glencairn Beach, the tidal pool and the False Bay coast

Glencairn Beach and its tidal pool are about five minutes on foot from the Residence: a morning swim, a walk along the sand, or a quiet start after a long journey. When you feel like going further, the coast runs on towards Fish Hoek, Kalk Bay and Muizenberg. For a more active day, a guided kayak, a snorkel in the kelp or another marine experience along the Simon's Town shore.

Meet the penguins

Boulders Beach

One of the Peninsula's defining wildlife experiences: a protected colony of African penguins on a sheltered beach of granite boulders, fifteen minutes from the house. Go for the penguins, stay for the coves and boardwalks. It works as a family morning, a slow coastal afternoon for a couple, or an hour alone with the sea.

Harbour stories

Historic Simon's Town

A few hours in the maritime town five minutes up the road. Jubilee Square and the historic centre, the harbour, the museums, the naval stories that shaped it, and a statue of a dog who joined the Navy. For guests who like history, this becomes a half-day of its own. Simon's Town and its story

Follow the coast

Kalk Bay and Muizenberg

Kalk Bay is built for an unhurried morning: harbour life, bookshops, coffee, seafood and time to wander. Buy dinner while you are there. Continue to Muizenberg for beach culture and, if you want to get in the water, a surf lesson on the most forgiving beginner break in the Cape.

At the edge of the Peninsula

Cape Point and the wild south

Set aside a full day for Cape Point and the empty landscape of the southern Peninsula. Explore rather than stop for the photograph: the walks, the lighthouse, the beaches on the far side. Come home through the quieter coast around Scarborough and let the road become part of the day.

The great Peninsula drive

Noordhoek and Chapman's Peak

Make the journey the destination. Time in Noordhoek, then Chapman's Peak along the Atlantic cliffs towards Hout Bay, stopping at the viewpoints and lingering over lunch. A celebrated climb for cyclists who want the active version. Save it for a clear day.

Ride the shore

Horse riding on Noordhoek Beach

A guided ride along the wide sands of Noordhoek Beach: gentle for beginners, faster for riders who know what they are doing. Pair it with lunch in Noordhoek, Cape Point Vineyards or the Chapman's Peak drive.

Into the mountain

Silvermine, trails and fynbos

The Peninsula is not only coast. Silvermine and the Table Mountain National Park behind it offer walks, hikes, mountain biking and some of the finest fynbos in the Cape. An easy reservoir loop, a longer ridge route with both oceans in view, or simply a few hours away from screens.

For the brave

Shark cage diving and ocean adventure

Simon's Town is also a base for shark cage diving and guided marine adventure. Nobody has to choose the brave option, but it is there for the day you want to turn the pace all the way up. Weather-dependent, and always with licensed operators.

Among the vines

Cape Point Vineyards and Constantia

Balance the coastal days with time among the vines. Cape Point Vineyards in Noordhoek does a tasting, a long lunch, a picnic or a sunset equally well, and its seasonal market adds food and local life when the dates align. For a fuller wine day, Constantia is half an hour away: choose one or two estates rather than all of them.

Rest is an experience too

The tidal pool, a massage and a slower day

Not every day needs a headline. A swim or a walk at Glencairn, a massage at the Residence or a nearby spa, a late lunch, and an afternoon left deliberately open. After long-haul travel or a demanding few months, a recovery day should feel intentional, not accidental.
